Mexico Export Compliance: Seed Treatments for Phytosanitary Regulations
Exporting seeds to Mexico requires compliance with strict phytosanitary requirements set forth by SAGARPA, The Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mexico’s agriculture ministry. Meeting these requirements can pose challenges for seed export, especially transit delays that may jeopardize seed quality if left in poor storage conditions at customs facilities. Germains Seed Technology offers seed treatments for phytosanitary regulations that meet the needs of conventional and organic growers in Mexico while ensuring the seeds we treat for seed producers and dealers meet Mexico’s phytosanitary regulations.
To address the issue of seed-borne diseases, which can cause significant transport delays and revenue loss for growers and seed producers, Germains offers a range of seed technology solutions that comply with export requirements and are suitable for regional growing conditions. SAGARPA, the Mexican Government regulatory agency, has approved these solutions, and we continue to collaborate with Mexican agencies and associations to ensure our products comply with Mexico’s regulations. The following is an overview of the treatments currently available:
Conventional Seed Treatments for Phytosanitary Regulations
Gopure® is a conventional seed disinfection treatment that uses a combination of processes and/or crop protection products that inhibit the growth of seed-borne pathogens, such as Verticillium, Stemphylium, Cladosporium, Alternaria, and Xanthomonas. Customizable to meet your field challenge, stack gopure with conventional fungicides for added protection from soil-borne pathogens such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, and Fusarium.
Thiram is a fungicide and seed treatment chemical that, according to the label, helps control and prevent the spread of seed-borne diseases and fungal pathogens. By mandating the application of Thiram for seeds entering the county, Mexico aims to minimize the risk of introducing harmful diseases and pests into its agricultural ecosystems.
Organic Seed Treatments for Phytosanitary Regulations
Germains also supports organic growers with our ProBio® organic treatments and processes.
