Pellet

Seed pelleting set off the development of all seed technologies over seventy years ago, and Germains was the first to create a pellet for sugar beets seed which has expanded into an number of vegetable crops. Because many vegetable seeds are small, light and irregular in shape, Germains offers a variety of seed pellets. Our seed pellets were developed for specific growing regions and are available in a number sizes and weights that are suitable for today’s crops. Seed pelleting may be stacked with other technologies such as priming and health technologies to help maximize your crops potential from planting to harvest.

Seed pelleting technologies offer many benefits including:

  • Produces bigger, rounder and smoother seed pellets
  • Allows for precision drilling
  • Ideal carrier of some crop protection treatments such as fungicides and pesticides
  • Uniform sized pelleted seed
  • Improve ability to handle even the finest seed

ProFlo® is a heavy seed encrustment coating that increases the seed size and weight to help improve singulation when planted with a vacuum seeder. Proflo improves singulation during planting vs. planting raw seed while making the seed more visible in the soil. Unlike the traditional round pellet with a specific pellet size, encrustments maintain the seeds natural shape while adding bulk and weight to the seed so that it flows through vacuum planters with fewer skips and doubles.

New ProFlo® Seed Encrustment for Onions

Germains R&D team recently reformulated the conventional Proflo treatment for onions. The new formula enhanced the encrustment’s integrity, reduced dust off, and improved the accuracy of the final coated seed count per lb. to meet grower’s planter specifications.

Product Benefits:

  • Improved integrity for easy planting and singulation
  • Significant reduction in dust off
  • Elimination of buildup requirements for FarMore® applications
  • Finished desired seed count accuracy ranging from 55K to 95K +/- 5K seed per lb
  • Reduction in the number of doubles and skips

Proflo® precise is a heavy, precision encrustment, designed to improve singulation and flow when used with a vacuum seeder. Commonly used for baby leaf lettuce when planted with a Spider Planter.  Proflo precise reduces the wear on the planter’s sponges. When using a precision planter, proflo precise allows a grower to plant 2.5 M per acre vs 4M raw seeds per acre.

Species availability:
Lettuce, Onion/Shallot

A lightweight field pellet that splits rapidly and neatly when placed in moist growing conditions, allowing access to the seed for oxygen and light uptake for germination. The pellet is designed for direct drilled crops and is precisely graded to improve the seeds singulation and plantability.

Innovative Solution to a Grower’s problem

ProPellet® Elite product development began with a single customer inquiry. A commercial celery grower was experiencing crop loss when transporting seedlings from the greenhouse to the field. The customer contacted Germains to see if a seed technology could be developed to improve celery seedling vigour and root mass for transplanting. Based on the grower’s circumstances, Germains’ Research and Development team customized an existing seed pellet by combining it with beneficial health products.

Species availability:
Carrot, Celery, Jalapeno

ProSize™ is a seed coating for sunflowers that provides added weight and a smooth, slick finish that enables sunflower seed to flow smoothly through planters. The seed coating helps growers achieve accurate field populations.

Product benefits:sunflower seed pellet

  • Adds weight to seed for improved placement in the field
  • Reduces dust off
  • Maximizes flow ability through planters
  • Uniform coating and seed sizing
  • Precision application of agrochemicals

Used in either a greenhouse or in the field, seed encrustments are a minimal buildup of pelleting materials that help increase the seed’s weight and size. Seed encrustments also help improve singulation during automated planting and may include agrochemicals upon request. Seed encrustments reduce dropping doubles when planting which improves spacing between plants often reducing the need to thin the crop after planting when planting to stand.
