Founded in 1883, the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) is one of the oldest trade organizations in the United States. The American Seed Trade Association’s members consist of over 700 companies and organizations that represent seed distribution, production, breeding and other related industries in North America.

Because ASTA is an advocate of science and policy issues, the organization is an effective voice in all matters relating to seeds and plant germplasm. For 55 years, ASTA has been hosting its annual Vegetable & Flower Seed Conference, which has become one largest seed trade events in North America. Seed professional from around the world will gather this year at the Disneyland Hotel starting today Friday January 29th through Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016 to discover new seed varieties, network with potential business partner and to learn about the seed industries latest updates and trends.
ASTA Conference Highlights
In between our one on one meeting with customers and business partners, representatives from Germains Seed Technology will attend a number of committees/working group meetings that address legislative concerns, industry trends, environmental challenges and plant diseases. For example, Germains Seed Technology’s Gilroy Head of Operations and Research, Dale Krolikowski will be the acting chair for the Seed Treatments and Environment Committee (STEC). STEC agenda will include presentations on biologic seed treatments and strategies for improving pollinator health when using commercial pollination services and an update on recent EPA activities. Joe Schmidt, Senior V.P of Business Development and Strategy at BioConsortia and Mike McFatrich, Vice President of Business Strategy and Development at NewLeaf Symbiotics will be discussing Different Approaches to Biologic Seed Treatments. Billy Synk, Director of Pollination Programs at Project Apis will be presenting “Enhancing the Health of Honey Bee Colonies”.
Also, this year’s general session will include a presentation by Don Goodwin, Owner and President of Golden Sun Marketing business development and marketing services to the fresh produce supply chain from seed to retail. Goodwin’s broad spectrum of clients includes seed companies, grower/shippers, wholesalers, retailers and the Walt Disney Company.
