Seed Treatments for Kale
Are you looking for a seed treatment for kale that can improve singulation at planting, disinfect your seed of seed borne disease, and or a crop protection product that is effective upon emergence? Germains Seed Technology offers both conventional and organic seed treatments for kale that can help improve your crop performance.
The following are seed treatment options for you consider applying to your kale seeds before planting your next field.
Four Seed Treatments for Kale
- PPL Maxi is a high-quality, lightweight melting seed pellet that is also known as Propellet® light. The 13.0 Maxi pellet size is a 5 to 1 ratio build that will help improve singulation during planting for accurate field spacing.
- Filmcoat + Apron+ Thiram is a conventional crop protection option for conventional growers who seek protection from the damping off complex. This seed treatment will help to improve field stand and yield by reducing losses from seed decay, damping-off and seedling blights caused by man seed and soil borne organisms.
- ProBio® gopure® is a certified organic process that reduces seed borne pathogens such as Xanthomonas campestris pv. Campestris otherwise known as Black Rot from Kale. Also, it may contribute to reducing the transfer of pathogenic organisms onto other crops and into the field. At this time, the disinfection process is only available for kale seed lots that meet a minimum seed count of 125,000 seeds per pound.
- ProBio® T-22 is a NOP compliant organic biological fungicide for the preventative control of plant diseases such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Cylindrocladium, and Thielaviopsis. The active ingredient is a microbe, Trichoderma harzianum Rifai Strain that grows onto the plant’s roots as it develops. It is important to note that seeds treated with T-22 contain live spores that become active in soil temperatures above 55° F and is not effective when soils remain cold. Also, seeds treated with T-22 should be stored in a cool, dry storage area that does not exceed 75°F. Avoid exposure to extreme heat and or direct sun. T-22 is an organic product, however; seed handlers should always wear PPE when planting seeds treated with either organic or conventional crop protection products.
