NFU Sugar Industry Programme tour of Germains

On the 23rd November 2018 Germains were pleased to host the opening event for the 2019 NFU Sugar Industry Programme (SIP) at our sugar beet Priming, Pelleting, Filmcoating and R&D facilities in King’s Lynn Norfolk.

About the NFU Sugar Industry Programme

The SIP is now in its ninth year and offers young growers and industry professionals the opportunity to learn more about the UK sugar beet sector. This consists of visits to key parts of the UK sugar industry, including: Germains Seed Technology, British Sugar’s Wissington Factory, the British Beet Research Organisation, Westminster, KWS in Einbeck, Germany, and the NFU headquarters. Alongside these visits, there are also several workshops included to support personal and professional development, such as social media and presentation training.

The Sugar Industry Programme Tours Germains

Germains welcomed the SIP group to the factories to understand the journey of the sugar beet seed through our Priming, Pelleting and Filmcoating processes. This also involved a visit to the Quality laboratory, which ensures that all seed is treated to and meets the highest quality standard.

The presentation element of the tour also allowed us to explain the benefits of Germains new Xbeet® enrich100 sugar beet treatment, which combines an elicitor with a new pellet to promote stronger plants, leading to greater yield potential.

Germains presentation to the SIP group 2019

The tour concluded with an insight into the innovative sugar beet seed treatments in the R&D pipeline by visiting our Research and Development facility in King’s Lynn and talking to the scientists who are developing these technologies. This demonstrated Germains’ commitment to enhancing sugar beet yields for UK growers.

Germains would like to thank the SIP group for their participation in the visit and look forward to welcoming the next group in 2020.
