Engineering and Facilities Manager

This position is responsible for the maintenance department and overseeing the facility management including all of the production equipment. The role will work within Gilroy and also provide support to the Fargo facility to help implement CI projects, improve efficiency, HS&E and infrastructure.  The role will oversee capital expenditures in Gilroy and support Fargo in utilizing the PMO process.

  • Provide training and support to enable employees to perform tasks to competent standards
  • Define, develop and improve maintenance and operations SOPs; adequately train employees on SOPs; track and record training effectiveness
  • Identify and implement process improvements, following the change control process and equipment qualification plans
  • Implement effective CI processes to track performance and downtime; implement process improvements that streamline capacity and maximize equipment utilization throughout the facility
  • Through good manufacturing practices, improve equipment design relating to dust control, automation, reduced manual handling and improved organic segregation
  • Following the PMO process develop CAPEX plans for new equipment installations which improve efficiency and HS&E throughout the plant, providing investments that have a positive ROI
  • Write and manage capital request; implement approved projects on time, on schedule and track progress toward meeting the projected ROI
  • Manage the maintenance budget without overspend
  • Use Germains NCR process to identify and investigate process non-conformances; develop actions to prevent re-occurring non-conformances; on approval, implement the corrective actions in a timely manner and close out NCR investigations
  • Track maintenance PM goals, equipment downtime, KPI’s and adherence to maintenance schedule; report KPI’s and goals daily to all departments 
  • Improve the use of the maintenance software program; implement down time and PM reports
  • Monitor and maintain a high level of machine and manufacturing quality, in accordance with prescribed standards, through in process control, preventative maintenance and inspection
  • Create and maintain a system of equipment specifications and documentation for the facility
  • Work with Quality to resolve non-conformance and make improvements to products and processes
  • Conduct mid-year and annual performance reviews for direct reports
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments and production sequences to meet production goals
  • Develop direct reports by setting set SMART objectives in alignment with the company’s business plans
  • Complete administrative paperwork as required for company reporting procedures
  • Produce Maintenance KPI reports for service, downtime and PM program
  • Advise line manager of incidents which may impact on safety, product quality or adherence to schedule or capital budget while assisting in providing a long-term solution to reduce risks
  • Dispose of all waste streams appropriately in line with the companies Environmental Policy
  • Additional work identified as necessary for the operation of the business


  • Requires an AA or BS degree in Engineering, or technically related field
  • Previous Line Manager experience is highly desirable
  • Background knowledge in high paced production manufacturing and/or seed processing
  • Production streamline, Lean Manufacturing and Applied Statistics experience a strong plus.  Creative problem-solving skills; strong mechanical skills; automation skills and practical engineering skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Excel & Project
