Material Scientist
The Material Scientist works on the development and continuous improvement of pellets, filmcoating and blending materials and ways to improve the pelleting and filmcoating processes. The role requires that the job holder utilises their experience of working in a biological science area with some knowledge of plant and seed physiology plus good knowledge of materials for the furtherance of product development in order to enable the business to remain at the forefront of technology in the market.
Primary Responsibilities
- To work closely with the Sales team and customers to develop new pellets/encrustments/coatings and enabling technologies for the improvement of germination and vigour of pelleted/coated seeds.
- To develop and continuously improve our pellet offerings to ensure we continue to provide high quality product on core species for our customers
- To fully utilise company systems to accurately record all results, provide detailed statistical analysis of relevant information and to provide interpretation of results.
- Conduct statistical analysis on study results to identify patterns and trends.
- Write clear and concise reports to enable the presentation of findings and conclusions, as well as proposed next steps.
- Communicate and transfer technical knowledge to manufacturing team to allow large scale application of new technologies
- Work closely with operations to implement manufacturing processes to ensure that maximum efficiencies are being achieved for the new developed products
- Manage specific ad hoc projects within specified timescales
- To build effective internal and external relationships to ensure a clear understanding of customer needs and business priorities

- Work on special projects as and when requested by the business.
- Confident working across locations with different cultures and languages.
- Willing to travel to other Germains sites and further develop themselves
Educational Qualifications
- The job holder should be educated to a MSc Degree or equivalent by experience.
Experience
- Minimum of 2-5 years postgraduate experience in material/blend development and testing, conduct of laboratory trials.
